As I sit here feeling a wee nostalgic over my 90s crushed velvet dress, nursing a head cold in the middle of Summer, (wtf?!) I can't help but begin to brainstorm a number of ideas to help perk me up and get me back on track to feeling like myself again.
So how do you go about feeling like yourself again when your head is pounding and you have this sexy, albeit weird phlegm thing going on that makes you sound like more manly than you would like? Well for me, it's as simple as working from the outside in.
If I don't look after myself when I'm sick and allow myself to present as 'un-Anjelique' I will ultimately feel crappy for much longer than I need to, won't get things (like this blog post) done and wallow in self pity and make myself anxious about all the things that need to be done, thus creating a deliciously vicious cycle that could have easily been avoided.
However, as an avid list creator, I've naturally devised a plan of action for when I'm feeling this way and it made sense to me to share a few of my own tips and tricks for when I'm feeling poorly or down in the dumps!
Put a smile on your dial
There's nothing more that cheers me up than a good dose of laughter, so whether that is chatting to a friend or watching your favourite comedian on repeat, find something or someone who will instantly give you that cheerful glow. Laughter truly is the best medicine, but if you really don't believe me just try and fake it until you make it!
Makeup and glow
If your skin is looking a bit sallow and in need of a little pick me up or an SOS, why don't you pamper yourself with a little makeover? Your favourite face mask, a 24 karat lip plumper or even a brighter smile can make you look and feel like a million bucks. Check out these teeth whitening kits from Love Your Smile, you'll be itching to flash those pearly whites in no time!
Dress to impress
You heard me- stop moping around in your pyjamas and get your butt into action! Whether it's rocking that killer outfit that always makes you feel 'extra' or literally just changing out of those clothes you've been wearing for the past few days, a wardrobe change here will do wonders for your self esteem and confidence. While you're at it, give those bed sheets a wash too- the smell of fresh sheets always puts me in a much happier mood.
Please let me know if you give these tips a try, I would love to hear if they help you out when you're feeling poorly, or even if they give you an overall boost in the right direction. I'll be back to my regular posting schedule every Wednesday, so make sure you mark me down in those calendars as I have some exciting new posts heading your way soon!
I'm a firm believer in dress to impress! There's so much power to reckon within clothes and what they make us feel! Lovely post and ideas on how to feel better! Xx

I put on a bright lip or bright top. I love a little skin brightening primer too.
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh you are too cute! You seriously just radiate confidence girl. If I am feeling poorly, then I definitely treat myself to a mani/pedi, a bubble bath, and a facial. :)

I agree that laughing a lot is a fabulous way to cheer yourself up when you're under the weather! I've got a cold right now too and I'm making sure to watch something funny each night :)

Every single time I feel down in the dump, I always put more effort in my appearance. I know it sounds shallow but I feel good when I look good.

Hope you're feeling much better now. Nothing worse than being sick, especially with the flu. I struggled with it after Christmas myself and at the worst time too as I had cousins from the USA coming to town. Could have used these tips then hahaha! Though it was so humid and hot during that time I don't think anything could have saved me!

Totally agree - the best medicine is laughter! I like your post, it's so cheering up:)
ReplyDeleteI'm exactly the same when I'm sick then I end up complaining more because of nothing goes right. Whenever I get sick, the last thing I'd think of is my appearance but I know if I did make some changes, it would make me feel way better but yeah being lazy sucks :) x
