22 Things I Have Learned in 22 Years

Hip Hip Hooray, it's officially my birthday, Happy Birthday to me!

I'm another year older and another year wiser, (or so they say!) and before I blow out the candles for another year, I thought I would take some time to reflect on these past 22 years of my life. If you had asked a little 7 year old me what I thought my life would be like, this definitely isn't what I had imagined for myself. I one hundred percent believed I was going to receive my Hogwarts letter at 11 and then go on to become a famous Pop Star once I had left school. Although, all the finer details are there; I am incredibly grateful to love and be loved by my family and friends, regardless of how much of a pain in the ass I am to them! In saying that, I still wouldn't be opposed to attending a Scottish boarding school to learn about spells and wizardry no matter what my age!

1. Learn to live in the moment. (Still working on this one!)

2. Not everyone has your best interests at heart.

3. Life isn't fair.

4. Happiness is a feeling, not a destination.

5. It's okay to be wrong.

6. You won't regret taking off your makeup and cleansing your skin while intoxicated at 3am. Your sobered up, future self will thank you.

7. Sometimes you've just got to go with the flow.

8. The people who want to be in your life will make an effort, and you can easily distinguish them from the people who don't.

9. Stop waiting for 'when' and start 'now'.

10. It's never too late to learn a new skill.

11. In fact, it's never to late to do anything.

12. Challenge yourself to achieve something everyday.

13. If you wallow in unhappiness and self-pity, that's where you will stay.

14. Travel and discover as often as you can. Whether it's across the world or in your own backyard, never stop looking for adventure.

15. Don't be afraid to indulge your inner child.

16. It's okay to ask for help.

17. Life is about the small, everyday moments. Savour them.

18. Fight for what you want and what you think is right.

19. Muster up some courage and do something that scares you. (Gryffindor's where you at?)

20. Always trust to your gut instinct.

21. School does not equal education. A fancy piece of paper doesn't really prove anything.

22. Never stop learning.

***

I would love for you to share something that you have also learned as you've grown older, or share a piece of advice you would want to give to your younger self if you ever had the chance.

  7. I'm not a Gryffindor (Hufflepuff here :P) but I agree with doing something that scares you! Some of the best things you can do will be scary at first. Happy birthday, Anjelique! I know it's not the 11th still for you, but hope you have a great day :)

  16. This is such a good list of the things you've learnt Angelique, all of which are inspiring in their own ways. Knowing to go with the flow is something you only really get the hang of once reaching your 20s and I love numbers 9 and 14 a lot :)
