The Faux Glow

The faux glow trend has really been on my beauty radar lately and after a few seasons running, I've decided to jump on the bandwagon.

As I've mentioned countless times before, my skin is so super oily that I thought I was never going to be able to join in on the highlighting trend. I lusted after Mary-Lou and Soft & Gentle like it was a religion and envied all who could pull off that #onfleek highlighting game while I was in a cakey, mattify-my-life land. Don't get my wrong, my skin didn't look like the desert, it was trying to pull off it's own highlighting game...but, in all the wrong places!

I eventually decided that enough was enough and my face was going to be #fleekin and highlighting regardless of oil-control, or lack thereof.

Enter three of my favourite highlighting products, theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer, Lush's Feeling Younger Skin Tint and The Body Shop's Shimmer Waves.

L-R: Feeling Younger, Mary-Lou Manizer, Shimmer Waves
Lush's Feeling Younger Skin Tint does exactly what it says on the tin. It brings a gorgeous radiance and luminescence to the skin and because it's a moussey, liquid texture, I prefer to mix a little bit of this in with my foundation before I apply it. Let me tell you, a little goes a long way with this product, you do not want to over do it and wind up looking like a glittery disco ball. Unless that's exactly what you want- then definitely go for it!

theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer is a gorgeous champagne highlight and reflects both gold and silver specks of glitter in the light. It is a perfect highlight for almost anyone, ranging fair to medium deep skin tones. Not only is this a great highlighter, but it's also a winner for a wash of shimmer over your eyelids or even to highlight the inner corner of your eye. I absolutely love the subtle glow effect this gives to my skin and it's even better when you layer the highlight.

The Body Shop's Shimmer Wave* is albeit more a blush than a highlight, but I think it would look absolutely gorgeous on darker complexions. The warmer tones of this blush/highlight makes it perfect for deep skin tones, especially if you swirl all of the individual colours together to create one 'supreme' colour. As for fairer skin tones, if you pick out the lighter shades from this shimmer wave, you could definitely use this as a light blush too.

  5. I adore the concept of highlighting! I do a mediocre job myself, though I'd love to have a professional try the technique on my face to see how it SHOULD be done haha! You have such gorgeous skin Anjelique, I can imagine highlighters would look amazing on you - Lush's Feeling Younger shade is certainly appealing going by your swatch...

  7. I don't think I ever did got off the highlighting bandwagon, I'm on the choo-choo train to highlighting land. LOL! Mary-Lou Manizer is gushed about by so many beauty bloggers but I never try it. I do prefer liquid highlighters though with Benefit Sunbeam and Becca Shimmering Perfector in shade Opal as my favourites.
