The Wednesday Edit: My Top 5 Skincare Picks

My grandmother always taught me to never skimp on two things, great skincare and good food. Wise words to live by, I think.

Today I want to share with you my top 5 picks of what I believe everyone needs in their skincare life! From moisturisers to micellar waters, I've narrowed down hundreds of different possibilities to the bare minimum products that I think you should be including in your skincare routine.

Now, before you get your knickers in a twist, I believe in the saying, 'If it's not broke, don't fix it' so please, don't take this to heart- I am not the God of skincare, although I'd quite like to be! ; )

1. Soothing Eye Gel

Benefit's 'Puff Off' RRP $44 AUD*

To get rid off that puffiness after you've had a big night and to iron out those creases, 'Puff Off' instantly helps smooth the look of under-eye puffies. The custom iron-tip is also made from metal which provides a cooling relief after one too many late nights. If you know what I mean.

Of course, there are plenty of other affordable options out there too! A great one is the Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel, which retails for about $14.99 AUD.

2. Face Mask

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask RRP $34 AUD

Whether you use them on a weekly basis or only bring out your face mask at sleepovers, we're all fond of this blemish zapping goo! Granted, you may look like a monster/ axe murderer with this slathered all over your face but it DOES give you clear skin, so why the heck wouldn't you use it? This particular Origins one is perfect for blemish prone skin but there are a couple Hydrating Masks out there for you dry skin bebs! I personally haven't tried it, but I have heard rave reviews about the Glam Glow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment, which is quite pricey going for around $75 AUD for a 50g jar.

3. Micellar Water

Bioderma Crealine H2O Cleanser & Make Up Remover RRP $29.99 AUD*

Talked about many times on this blog, micellar water is an old favourite of mine. This particular solution of micellar water is fast becoming a new favourite, as it does an excellent job at removing not only a full face of makeup but my mascara too!

I'm sure you would've seen my review of the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, a more affordable version of this luxurious Bioderma one. It generally retails for about $11.99 AUD but you can find it on sale most of the time!

4. Lip Balm

Coco Island Paw Paw Ointment RRP $7.95 AUD

Paw paw is my bae. It can literally fix anything, from cuts and burn to chapped lips, Paw Paw has your back! And, let's be real, nobody likes kissing, looking at or even having chapped lips so if you include this in your skincare routine you'll be bound to have people admiring those luscious lips from all over!

5. Moisturizer

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion RRP $49 AUD.

Seriously though, if you don't moisturize, what are you doing with your life?! It's a no brainer really- you've got to look after your skin, it's the only one you've got for the rest of your life so you got to give it some TLC. I would recommend this Clinique one for drier skin as it's quite creamy. For oily skin, you would want to head into the direction a a gel-like moisturizer.

  2. The cooling relief from the metal tip on the Benefit product sounds like a dream! I used to use the Clinique moisturiser, however it didn't mesh well with my skin and built up very quickly. That was one of my brief experiments with looking after the skin on my face but I REALLY need to try again some time haha :) If you could recommend one moisturiser, which would it be?

    1. It feels like a dream! Haha ; )
'Brief experiments' hehe you've got me in stitches! Ooh, well definitely depending on your skin type! If you're leaning towards oiler skin and I mean your face is an oil slick two hours after you step out of the house (aka me) I would definitely recommend a 'gel' moisturizer or a mattifying serum! The Yes To range have a fab oil control one but it kind of smells like crap! It's a bit of a catch-22! On the opposite side of the spectrum, if you have drier skin and the Clinique one hasn't worked for you maybe try something alternative such as Coconut Oil? It smells great and it's cheap!

Let me know how you go with it!

    2. Thanks so much for your help, Anjel! My dilemma at the moment is having generally dry skin but with an oily t-zone, which is making finding the 'perfect' product a little difficult at the moment!

  3. I love the Origins Charcoal Mask and the Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to try the Paw Paw because I can't find it here in the US. I use the CO Bigelow Rose Salve, which I think is a similar multi-purpose lip balm. It has been my skincare savior this winter!

  4. I am really curious about the Benefit eye gel, it looks amazing but I'm worried if it's just another gimmick so it's good to see that it actually works! I really need to get my hands on Garnier micellar water once my current Nivea runs out, couldn't find it the last time I went shopping.
I also tried that Clinique moisturizer in the past, like many many years ago but it broke me out bad. Wonder if it'll suit my skin now that I am *ahem!* older. LOL!

    1. At first I thought it was another gimmick too, but I'm so happy to report that it actually works! It's like instant smoothness under the eyes and my concealer goes on so much better too! Ooh, yes let me know if you find it- I've had a few people who couldn't!

      *ahem ahem* hahaha
