Lush is one of my favourite companies coming from an ethical standpoint, so when I discovered that their new Father's Day Collection this year was using ethically and sustainably sourced Sandalwood, I had to check it out. Sandalwood is extremely valuable and has led to the rise of illegal smuggling. Lush use approximately 600-700kgs of certified organic Australian sandalwood per year which is sustainably farmed in collaboration with Indigenous communities in the Kalgoorlie region of Australia. For every kilogram of sandalwood bought by Lush Australia, $50 AUD is then contributed towards an Indigenous working fund for sandalwood.
"Aboriginal custom dictates that wealth should be shared around the community, so helping harvesters make money from sustainable sandalwood is a positive way to support the community."
Sandalwood oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and the rich woody aroma invokes a sense of calm and deep relaxation. It's also a fixative and help keep perfume and allow the scent to develop more naturally on the skin.
